10 Most Stressful Jobs
We've seen lists like this one before, but the folks at Business Insider have re-crunched some numbers and have come up with a new ranking of the most stressful jobs.
For some reason, radio on-air personality did not make the list. You kids have no clue the amount of pressure we put on ourselves to entertain and inform you each and every day!!! ;)
Back to the list. Here's the top ten.
- Emergency Dispatchers - Police, fire, ambulance, etc. Their stress tolerance is 98.5. That's a number from 0 to 100 that measures how frequently you have to accept criticism and deal with stress on the job. Even worse, the average salary is $39,410.
- Nurse Anesthetists - It's kind of like an anesthesiologist, only you're not a doctor. Stress tolerance is 98.2, average salary $158,900.
- Telephone Operators - This one's a no-brainer. They have to put up with crabby people who just want answers and not sorry excuses. Stress tolerance is 98.2, average salary $39,350.
- Dancers - I'm not buying this one. Unless, we're talking "late night" dancers. Stress tolerance is 97. Average salary was not listed.
- Obstetricians and Gynecologists - The reasons go without saying. Stress tolerance is 96.5, average annual salary $214,750.
- Surgeons - I thought this one should be even higher on the list. Pretty sure when you have someone's life in your hands, that could be a tad stressful. Stress tolerance is 96.2, average salary $240,440.
- Airline Pilots, Co-Pilots, and Flight Engineers - Stress tolerance is 95.2, average salary $131,760.
- Healthcare Social Workers - Stress tolerance is 95, average salary $53,590.
- Phlebotomists - They're the people trained to draw blood from you for clinical or medical testing, transfusions, donations, or research. (Yeah, you bet I had to look that up.) Stress tolerance is 95, average salary $31,890.
- News Anchor - Stress tolerance 94.7, average salary $84,380.
So, apparently you shouldn't get into healthcare unless you can handle your stress and everyone else's too!
