The job of Duson Chief of Police is a highly sought after position. Last night the city council of Duson announced that 18 potential candidates for the job had applied.

The office of Duson Chief of Police became open after former Chief Frank Andrew was fired. Chief Andrew was removed from the position because of allegations of gambling while on the job.

The application process has now been closed and applicants from Texas, New York, and Tennessee as well as Louisiana have submitted paperwork asking to be considered for the job. Duson Mayor Johnny Thibodaux told KATC that the process is a daunting one and the town will ask for some outside help in the screening process.

"We're going to get some help from law enforcement agencies to look at all these applicants, do a background check, dwindling it down for us to two or three applicants, and from there we're going to sit down and perhaps interview them a bit further,"

Joe Caillet the interim acting chief is also one of those that is applying for the job. It is hoped that the application, review and interview process can be completed swiftly and that by next month's council meeting the town will be able to announce the name of the new chief of police.
