We're about to get into it -- the dawg days of summer. You know, the time of year from say, early May until late November, where there's only a handful of outdoor things that we can possibly handle!

Getting into the water sure is one of those options. Personally, I'm a huge fan of waterparks.

Many of us know of places like Blue Bayou in Baton Rouge and the SPAR Water Park in Sulphur, but there are a few more across the state you probably weren't aware even existed.

So check out our list of waterparks in the great state of Louisiana

    Blue Bayou

    Baton Rouge

Open since 1999, this is Louisiana's signature water park. Blue Bayou has a total of 20 attractions and over the years has added new attractions. It's also known as the "Land of the Giants" as it's home to five of the world's largest water slides. Throw in Dixie Landin' amusement park and you've got a fun day lined up.

The Audubon Zoo in New Orleans has been a great destination for years and then they kicked it up a notch with this addition. Highlights include Gator Run, jumping water spouts, a huge alligator water slide, spider monkey soakers and water-spitting snakes. There are also three splash zones.

This park is operated by BREC (Parks & Recreation) and though on the smaller side, it's still quite the value at only $12 admission. It features a few slides, lazy river, splash pad, aquatic playground and several pavilions.

    Aqua PARDS

    Denham Springs

This park is on the smaller side but it's also very inexpensive. Run by the Denham Springs Parks & Recreation, it'll only set you back $5 a day if you are in-district and $8 for out-of-district park goers. It's a great place for the littler ones.

    White Sands Lake Day Beach

    Franklinton

Head up to the northeast corner of the bottom part of the boot in the state and you'll find this lake. Yeah, technically it's not a water park in the truest sense, but this place looks like a ton of fun. Your admission to the sandy shore gets you access to all the inflatables set up on the water.
