8-year-old David Spisak Jr. is fighting his fourth battle with cancer, but he's fighting with the love of his life by his side.

At 8 years old, David has found a love that some people don't even find in a lifetime.

But before I can tell you about this love, I have to tell you how David got here.

David was two years old when he was first diagnosed with leukemia. Since then, he has beat cancer three times. He received a fourth diagnosis in March, and has since gone through extensive chemo and two transplants.

That means for a total of six out of the eight years he has been on this earth, the Chesapeake, VA native has been in a battle with cancer. After his fourth diagnosis, it was realized that David would have to spend more time in the hospital, away from all his friends.

His parents noticed the disease taking its toll on their young son, so they decided it was only fair to give him childhood he was missing out on while fighting this terrible disease.

If the outcome was going to be the same, if he was going to continue to get cancer, we decided that if he wasn’t going to win, that we would give him everything right now.

In his online fundraising campaign, his mother wrote: "No more isolation from people or places, restrictions, living in hospitals; only swimming pools, going places, fun, playing with other kids, going hard and fast to make it count!"

When David was diagnosed in March doctors told his family that without treatment, David would live only four to six more weeks. After months passed and David seemed to look fine, his parents let him go back to school in September.

He attended class until he simply couldn't do it anymore—but while he was there, David found something incredible.

Love.

Like most boys at his age, David had a crush on girl in his class. Her name was Ayla, and as it would turn out, she had a crush on David too.

After he was taken out of school for his illness, 7-year-old Ayla sent David many letters with her phone number "all over" them. In addition to those letters, his classmates also sent David letters telling him how much Ayla "missed him."

Once Davids parents realized this was something more than an elementary school crush, they spoke with Ayla's parents and planned a "date" for their kids.

David was a true gentleman, calling Ayla to formally ask her out, then met her at the bowling alley with a teddy bear and flowers in hand.

The 7-year-old girl ran to David's wheelchair when they met, later pushing it around and helping him with the bowling balls during their date.

His parents called their connection "natural" and were taken aback by their bond.

No one else was allowed to touch him. They stayed together the entire time. His dad and I kept trying to stay close behind him to make sure he wouldn't fall, but he kept trying to be with her and taking her help. It was so natural, there was no hesitation from neither one of them. They just wanted to be together.

By the time the night was over, not only did David have his first date, but he also had his first kiss—on the cheek.

David's parents saw how genuine their connection was and truly believe that Ayla was put in their son's life for a reason—even if his time here is limited.

Love hard, David. Fight harder.
