New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is fond of saying that the next game his team plays is the biggest game of the season because it’s the next one and the only one they can control. It is a way to keep focused on the task at hand and take the season on one game at a time. It works. Payton and the Saints have proven that as they are 9-2 on the season.
What a difference a year makes. 2012 was the season where the Falcons stayed healthy and the ball bounced the Red and Black way, while for the Black and Gold it was a season to forget. Atlanta finished with a 13-3 season that led to them hosting the NFC Championship game and coming within 10 yards of playing in New Orleans for a Super Bowl. We don’t need to go back to how we would have all felt seeing Falcons logos and colors in the Crescent City for two weeks.
The last time the Dallas Cowboys came into New Orleans they handed the Saints their first loss of the season back in 2009, snapping a 13-0 start. Fans around here still haven’t forgotten about that game and since then the Saints and Cowboys have played twice since and each time the Saints have won by three points. New Orleans won 30-27 on Thanksgiving in 2010 and last year it took overtime for the Saints to win 34-31.
The New Orleans Saints play their fourth and final game against the AFC East Sunday as they take on the (4-4) New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. New Orleans is coming off of a 35-17 win over Buffalo while the Jets enter the game fresh from a 49-9 beat down at Cincinnati.
The New Orleans Saints are finally ready to get back in action as they host the (3-4) Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Who Dats have seen their team start off the season nicely as the 5-1 record marks only the third time the Saints have began that way joining the 1988 and 2002 seasons. In 1991 and 2009, the team was 6-0 through the first six games.
