Louisiana head football coach Mark Hudspeth said Monday everyone looks good at practice until the pads go on.

The Cajuns aren't to the point of full contact yet.  That will come Friday.  But after working out in just helmets the first two days, the team donned shoulder pads for the first time at Wednesday's practice.

Hudspeth was pleased....sort of.

While the third year coach was happy with the earlier part of practice, Hudspeth was disappointed in the way the players slowed near the end of practice.

The Louisiana heat may have had something to do with the slowness, as the heat index was near 110 degrees at practice.

Still, Hudspeth says the Cajuns have taken pride in being a fourth quarter team and he doesn't plan on letting up on the gas pedal despite the heat.  Of course, the staff is being mindful of hydration and giving the players several breaks during practice to make sure they aren't victims of the heat.

The Cajuns open the 2013 season August 31 at Arkansas.
