The 40-minute documentary, titled "Saving Pelican #895," was a partnership between Vermilion Pictures and HBO. It chronicles the life of LA 895, the number assigned to one of the brown pelicans Abbeville native Michael Carloss and his team rescued from the Gulf.

Carloss says the fact that a large company like HBO chose to spotlight Louisiana and the plight of the pelicans affected by the oil is important for many reasons. It brought worldwide attention to one of our state's most valuable resources, — its wildlife.

We are always proud of our Acadiana citizens and their efforts to help others, and this just shows the great spirit we have here in Louisiana. Thank you for that, Michael Carloss
