Yesterday was a beautiful day to be outside in Acadiana. I was in Youngsville most of the afternoon at NuNu's Supermarket. We were doing a broadcast with the folks there and the Reser's Fine Foods and Joe Gibbs Racing Team. It was a great day except for the constant sneezing and sniffling that just about everybody was experiencing. If you suffer allergies then you know this is not your favorite time of year.

I decided to check the pollen count for Acadiana and much to my surprise it wasn't off the charts. It was actually in the middle or medium range. Maybe it's the combination of dust, dander, pollen and other airborne junk that has finally made my nose run like California Chrome. Most people who suffer seasonal allergies do tend to feel the effects of several irritants, not just one.

What can you do about seasonal allergies? There are some pretty good over the counter medications you can take, ask your doctor before you do that. There are also some pretty good prescription drugs you can take to ease your symptoms. Other tips include washing your hair at night so you don't sleep with pollen and dust. Making sure you leave work boots and work clothes in a place where you don't have to be around them at home. It's also a good idea to change your air conditioner filter a little more frequently. I know for most of us we change that filter with every Presidential election.

Regardless, it's bad but it's not as bad as it could be and it will eventually get better. In the mean time stay inside and do what it takes to help you breathe easier.
