The Acadiana Roller Girls roller derby team will be in action tonight. What?!? You didn't know we had a roller derby team in Acadiana?

We do and they are not only good on the track, they are good in the community as well.

We have had the chance to visit with the Rollergirls on many occasions on the Bruce and the Kennel Club show. You can see the picture of me and some of girls right here on this page. I'm the one without the mustache.

Tonight it looks like I will finally get my chance to see them in action in a match. The Cajun Roller Girls, a group of n'er-do-wells from Houma will be in the A.R.G Corral, (Top Shelf Sports) for a bout that will not be for the faint of heart. These two teams have a strong dislike for each other and the action will be fast and furious.

When I was a kid we used to watch roller derby on TV. The match was played on a high banked track and the action was fast. The Roller Girls play on a flat track but they still have a lot of speed in their game despite the laws of physics. I like to think of roller derby as a ballet on skates with blood on the track and beer in the stands. These ladies are fun to be with and I am betting even more fun to watch.

Tailgating begins at 4pm with the doors open at 6pm and the match to begin promptly at 7. Tickets will be available at the door for tonight's match. The cost is $12 and kids 12 and under are admitted free.
