During the month of May, the Acadiana Open Channel will have series of workshops for people who are interesting in learning about or improving upon their productions skills so that they can create shows for AOC.

There will be a variety of workshops that will include a variety of editing workshops, adobe workshops and camera workshops.

Some of the workshops are free while others have a cost.

The workshops being offered include:

  • Orientation. At this orientation, discover the benefits of joining AOC, all that can be done at AOC, as well as how to successfully reserve use of AOC’s resources. A brief rundown of the studios, editing lab and portable equipment available is included in the orientation. This free workshop is a pre-requisite to reserving any of AOC’s portable equipment or facilities.

  • Tuesday, May 5, 6-8 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 21, 10 a.m. - noon
  • Tidbits: Citizen Journalism. Learn how public citizens can play an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analyzing, and disseminating news and information.
  • Tuesday, May 12, 5-6 p.m., directly before AOC’s monthly member meeting
  • Editing in Final Cut Pro X for Beginners. This is a beginners' workshop that introduces users to the editing program most used at AOC. Students will learn the main functions of Final Cut Pro X including trimming clips, adding text and audio, and exporting and submitting content for air.
  • $35 members/$50 non-members
  • Monday, May 11, 6-8 p.m.
  • Intermediate Editing in Final Cut Pro X. This is follow-up workshop to Editing in Final Cut Pro X for Beginners that introduces users to the editing program most used at AOC. Students will learn the main functions of Final Cut Pro X including green-screen editing and multi-camera editing.
  • $35 members/$50 non-members
  • Wednesday, May 13, 6-8 p.m.
  • Adobe After Effects. Learn the basics of Adobe After Effects from composition to animation using keyframes and the software’s camera functions. Build a 10-second animated loop using still images and video.
  • $35 members/$50 non-members
  • Thursday, May 14, 6-8 p.m.
  • Production in AOC's Multi-Purpose Room. This workshop teaches participants how to AOC’s larger television studio to produce a live or recorded television show. Camera operation, directing, stage set-up and lighting basics are discussed.
  • $35 members/$50 non-members
  • Tuesday, May 19, 6-8 p.m.
  • Operating AOC’s Portable Cameras. This workshop offers hands-on training with AOC's portable video cameras.
  • $35 members/$50 non-members
  • Tuesday, May 26, 6-8 p.m.
  • Pre-Production. Get tips and pointers on the sometimes elusive process of pre-production. Ensure for a successful production by planning, preparing and organizing before shooting a frame.
  • $35 members/$50 non-members
  • Tuesday, May 28, 10 a.m. - noon
