New Orleans Police on Wednesday night arrested 19-year-old Akein Scott in connection with the Mother’s Day second line parade shooting that left 19 people hospitalized with gunshot wounds. He had been on the run for the last three days. Scott was arrested in the Little Woods neighborhood of eastern New Orleans.

Police say Scott opened fire on Sunday about 1:45pm on the annual Mother’s Day second line organized by the Original Big 7 Social Aid and Pleasure Club as the parade passed the intersection of Frenchmen and North Villere streets.

A total of 10 men, 7 women and a boy and girl (both age 10) were struck by the wild gunfire shots. As of Wednesday, three still remained in hospitals listed in stable to critical condition. The other victims have been treated and released.

As you may recall, Scott was captured on video surveillance in the act. Initially, New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Ronal Serpas said three gunmen were seen fleeing from the parade, where 10 NOPD officers had been assigned. However, police have identified only Scott as a suspect in the shooting.

Scott had been out of jail on a $15,000 bail for gun and drug charges he faced.
