Alabama's defense hassled LSU from start to finish, shutting out the Tigers 10-0 in Baton Rouge on Saturday night.

The Tide defense held LSU to only 6 first downs, forcing 8 punts.

"This is a tough place to play, they've got a really good team and are playing well, but our guys persevered in this game and I'm really proud of them," said Alabama head coach Nick Saban. "I'm really proud of our defense."

LSU's best chance to score came in the opening minutes of the game.

Jamal Adams picked off Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts in Bama territory, setting LSU up with a short field.

After failing to convert a first down, Colby Delahoussaye's 49 yard field goal attempt was blocked, and LSU failed to strike first.

In the end, the Tigers failed to strike the scoreboard at all, while the Tide relied on the legs of true freshmen quarterback Hurts to eventually find the end zone.

LSU's defense did an adequate job for three quarters, shutting out Alabama heading into the 4th quarter.

Linebacker Kendell Beckwith finished with 16 tackles (5 solo)

"I thought our defense played awfully well, except for 2 third downs," said LSU coach Ed Orgeron.

However, Saban's squad eventually put together a 12 play, 90 yard scoring drive in the 4th, capped off on a third down 21 yard scamper by Hurts.

LSU quarterback Danny Etling was 11/24 for 92 yards and an interception. He rarely had time to throw, being sacked 5 times, knocked down 10, and hurried 20.

"We struggled to run the ball," explained Orgeron. "We struggled to pass protect."

Tigers running back Leonard Fournette was held in check as well, averaging 2.1 yards on carry on 17 runs for 35 yards.

"It just wasn't a very good performance on offense," said Orgeron. "It wasn't about anybody else. It was about execution."

Hurts' ability to run the ball was the biggest difference in the game. He rushed for 114 of Alabama's 216 yards on the ground, while LSU ended the contest with 125 yards total.

The win is Alabama's 21st in a row, improving their record in 2016 to 9-0 and 6-0 in SEC play.

With the loss, LSU falls to 5-3, 3-2 in SEC play. It's the first defeat for Orgeron since he took over as interim head coach in week 5.

LSU now has to prepare for a road contest next week at Arkansas (6-3, 2-3).
