Soap opera legend David Canary, who starred on All My Children for 27 years, has passed away of natural causes at the age of 77.

Canary won five Daytime Emmy Awards for his potrayal of twins Adam and Stuart Chandler on the daytime soap opera.

David Canary was primarily a theater actor until he broke into television in the 1960s, first as Mia Farrow's physical therapist in Peyton's Place and next as Ponderosa ranch foreman Candy Canaday in Bonanza.

In 1978, he started his daytime soap career with a role on Search For Tomorrow. He followed that up with stints on The Doctors and Another World before kicking off his 27-year run on All My Children in 1983.

He would leave the show and the profession in 2010 only to return to the soap in 2011 for a few series-ending episodes.

A memorial tribute will be held at a later date.

David leaves behind his wife of 33 years, actress Maureen Maloney, along with three children.
