PARIS (AP) — France's president says three Americans and a British man are an example of the need for action when faced with terrorism.

Francois Hollande (frahn-SWAH' oh-LAWND') presented the men -- including a U.S. airman and a National Guardsman -- with France's Legion of Honor today, three days after they tackled a heavily-armed man on a high-speed train headed for Paris.

Hollande says because of the actions by 23-year-old U.S. Airman Spencer Stone and the three other men, "veritable carnage" was avoided.

The gunman is being questioned by French counterterrorism police outside Paris.
