Aunt Jemima Announces Recall Due to Possible Listeria Contamination

The company that produces Aunt Jemima frozen pancakes, waffles and French toast is recalling those products because they might be contaminated with Listeria.

Pinnacle Foods Inc. said the safety of its customers is its top priority and the good news is no illnesses have been reported. It says the recall was initiated when testing indicated the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the plant environment.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy people can suffer fevers and diarrhea while pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirths.

Pinnacle Foods is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on the recall, which only applies to frozen products, not dry mixes or syrups.

Retailers have been notified to remove products from store shelves.
