Taylor Swift has been a fan of James Taylor’s music ever since she was a little girl. And she should be — after all, Swift’s parents had the soulful folk-rock singer in mind when they named their baby girl. The 22-year-old country superstar especially adores Taylor’s hit ‘Fire and Rain,’ and lucky for her, the ‘Mean’ hitmaker will have the opportunity play a few tunes — and maybe even her favorite song — with James Taylor at the iconic Tanglewood venue in Massachusetts on July 2.
This year, Trisha Yearwood has managed to add another job title to her resume: Cooking show host. The country music star showed off her kitchen skills on the Food Network this spring in a six-episode series called ‘Trisha Yearwood’s Southern Kitchen.’ The first season of the show was just a test run, but as it turns out, cooking fans love the ‘She’s in Love With the Boy’ hitmaker just as much as country music fans — the show has been renewed for a second season.
It seems like these days, everyone is jumping on the country music bandwagon — even television shows! Country music was already well-represented on the small screen with Blake Shelton on ‘The Voice‘ and Sugarland‘s Jennifer Nettles on ‘Duets.’ And now, E!’s new show ‘Opening Act’ has added Martina McBride to the list of country stars making waves on television.
Even though Carrie Underwood is a few years Taylor Swift‘s senior, that hasn’t stopped music critics from lumping the two popular blonde singers into the same mold. Both Underwood and Swift have major crossover power, but that doesn’t mean that they are cut from the same cloth. In fact, Underwood recently told BANG Showbiz that she hates being compared to her 22-year-old fellow country/pop star.
Taylor Swift is no stranger to collaborating with artists of all genres. In addition to working with Justin Bieber, the Civil Wars, and others, Swift recently laid down vocal tracks for rapper B.o.B.’s newest single, ‘Both of Us.’ Last week, B.o.B. made the trek to Swift’s home state of Tennessee to film a music video for the song. While he claims to have enjoyed his time down south, both the rapper and his country counterpart encountered some obstacles during the shoot.
Ever since teenage country star Scotty McCreery won Season 10 of ‘American Idol,’ he hasn’t stopped giving props to the popular show that gave him his big start in country music. On Tuesday, McCreery even stopped by to lend some encouraging words as future ‘Idol’ hopefuls gathered in Charlotte, N.C. to try out for the show’s next season.
It might seem like Keith Urban has been a bit quiet lately, but that’s not actually the case. For the past few months, the Australian country star has been hanging out on his home soil filming the Aussie version of ‘The Voice.’ But Urban just announced that when filming for the show wraps in January, he’s heading back out on tour, and he’ll be kicking off his next run Down Under.
Don’t expect to catch Carrie Underwood making spelling or grammar errors anytime soon. And if you know anything about the country songstress’ background, that shouldn’t surprise you. The ‘American Idol’ winner graduated magna cum laude from Northeastern State University with a communications degree. Though she’s a singing celeb now, Underwood’s focus was once journalism, so she still has an eye for her first love — good grammar.
