Eventually we are going to see some cooler temperatures around South Louisiana and when that dip in mercury arrives there is nothing I like better than a hot cup of coffee and something warm and cake-like. One of my favorite treats for this kind of early morning snacking is banana bread.

For this week's Foodie Friday I asked Chef Jill McCoy to put on her baking apron and create something that is not only delicious and simple to make but something that would make a nice holiday treat.Personally I love giving homemade treats as sussies and holiday gifts to close friends. I think when you give homemade you give a piece of your heart.

Her response was exactly what my taste buds had never known they were missing. A loaf of delicious banana bread with a little something different. It's the nuts and of course the chocolate and what exactly is that secret ingredient?

I have had banana nut bread before. It's one of my favorite treats when it's moist. If it's dry, let's face it,  you'll have a better time eating cardboard. Jill's unique twist on a classic favorite along with her healthy substitutions make this loaf not only moist and decadent but overly healthy as well.

I can imagine myself devouring an entire loaf of this delicious bread with just a cup or two of coffee on a cool Saturday morning on the patio. I think if you take a few minutes to follow this fool proof recipe and create a loaf of your own you'll agree with me as well.
