Mother's Day Ideas For Moms In Lafayette
With Mother’s Day rapidly approaching, you may be doing last minute planning on what to do for that special person in your life. Well, Lafayette has a variety of places to take Mom on her special day, from restaurants to attractions that showcase our local heritage. Here’s a list of five great places to take mom on Mother’s day in Lafayette:
With the recent cool front that blew through, and what looks like a nice day weather-wise on Sunday, why not bring the celebration outdoors and have a good old-fashioned picnic in the park? There’s quite a few parks to choose from, and one that has one of the best playgrounds for kids is Girard Park near UL campus. Just bring an ice chest packed with food and drinks, some lawn chairs and even a radio for a little sound track for your get together. There’s plenty of shade at the park from trees to pavilions (but you may want to check the park office early to see if one of the pavilions has been reserved).
If your mom isn’t the outdoor type, then why not surprise her with a family get together at her house? Have everyone bring along something to eat and drink. Familiar settings are always a nice place to have a family event. Be sure to check that dad gets the house in order before inviting the family over. Having him clean the house would be a present enough, or even better, hire a cleaning service for a one-time spring dusting/cleaning of her house before the party.
Down in the Oil Center is the worst kept secret for a delicious Sunday brunch. Blue Dog Cafe has been a staple in the community for years, and is the home to some award winning cuisine. A wonderful buffet, laid out across two rooms, carving stations, made to order omelets, live music are what make this destination perfect for celebrating mom. Just be sure to make reservations, as Sunday brunch is usually a busy affair, and on Mother’s Day, much busier
Similar to the picnic in the park, a visit to Vermilionville would make a wonderful outing for Mother’s Day. Vermilionville is a wonderful venue for a broad range of events featuring music, food, cultural exchange and more. This Sunday, there will be live music from Gerard Delafosse & the Zydeco Gators. Take a trip and two-step your way through historic Vermilionville in Lafayette by the Lafayette Regional Airport.
A tradition on the Southside of Lafayette, Charley G’s has established itself as one of the great fine dining establishments in town. Couple that with a great Mother’s Day brunch and you’ve got yourself a win-win. *Note: Reservations are required for the Charley G’s Sunday Brunch for Mother’s Day.
