Big Buck Taken Illegally In Avoyelles Parish

An Abbeville hunter is in big trouble with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Authorities in Avoyelles Parish say that Glen Toups Junior of Abbeville illegally shot and killed a big buck with a crossbow while hunting on the grounds of a hunting club near Simmesport.

According to the LDWF report Toups had no deer tags or proper license in his possession at the time he harvested the deer.

All of that totaled up, he’s looking at about $400 to $500 in fines, and he’s also looking at civil restitution for the illegally taken deer.

Adam EInck , spokesperson for LDWF, said the deer meat was donated to charity and the head and antlers are being held as evidence. In his comments to the Louisiana Radio Network, Einck speculates the 18 -point  buck would have rated as a 208 class buck. Einck said most likely the buck would have been one of the top five in the state taken with an arrow.

It’s probably very unlikely this deer will ever be recognized for what it was since it was illegally taken. No record can really be claimed for that.

Authorities questioned the hunting club where the deer was harvested and they claim that Toups told them he had proper a proper license and the proper tags before he was allowed to hunt. Once it was discovered that Toups did not possess the proper paperwork and credentials the hunting club reported the incident to authorities.
