Anyone who has heard the story of Steve Gleason knows the incredible fighter that he is as he continues to live his life despite being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

This week, Gleason's fight against ALS and for ALS awareness takes a huge step as he will be U.S. Sen. David Vitter's guest to President Obama's State of the Union address to Congress on Tuesday night. That's sure to be great exposure.

But that's not all.

Behind the scenes, Gleason and Vitter will also have a meeting with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell on Tuesday in Vitter's office.

“Meeting with Burwell directly will really help bring more attention to ALS, and all the great work Team Gleason does to help folks with disabilities to live fuller, more independent lives,” Vitter said.

Vitter says he'll reintroduce bipartisan legislation, the Ensuring Access to Quality Complex Rehabilitation Technology Act, which he says "would create a separate benefit category for Complex Rehab Technology (CRT), such as a power chair or speech devices, within the Medicare program." Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) worked with Vitter on this legislation.
