Tonight one of Blake Shelton's proteges on The Voice could win it all. Have you heard Dia Frampton? I think she is really something special, but then again I think Blake Shelton is something special too. The first time I met Blake Shelton was in a recording studio on music row in Nashville. It was about 6:30 in the morning, Krista and I were doing the morning show from Emerald Studios as part of Fan Fair and Blake had his first single out, Austin.

I remember we talked about what is was like to hear his song on the radio, if he had ever been to Arbuckle Wilderness in Oklahoma and what a cool guy Hoyt Axton was. It was Hoyt that suggested Blake record the song Ol' Red. Blake was working as a house painter at the time and was painting Hoyt's mothers house.

Even then you could tell that there was more to Blake Shelton than just being a singer. He had the kind of personality that instanly made you feel comfortable to be around. He also had a wicked sense of humor that could leave more than a few people red faced in the room. Just read some of Blake's tweets on Twitter.

I am very happy to see Blake's success with his 3 week number one song Honey Bee off his upcoming CD Red River Blue, his marriage to Miranda Lambert and his national exposure on NBC's The Voice. I don't think Blake is going to be "just a country singer" any more I think he is fast becoming a rising star in every sense of the word. A far cry from Ada Oklahoma which by the way isn't too far from Paul's Valley where Blake and I can both say, we got our butts kicked one time.
