The city of Abbeville is still under a boil advisory after a malfunction at the water plant.

Public schools remain closed on Tuesday in Abbeville. Several businesses have also been affected.

So what happened?

Mayor Mark Piazza said, "We did have an alarm system that's built into the plant that was activated. That alarm system goes directly to the police department. From there, different departments are notified about the problem."

But Piazza says protocol was not followed and those departments were not notified, but he added, "That's the part I'm not really allowed to talk about."

KATC TV-3 tried reaching out to the Abbeville Police about the mayor's claim that protocol was not followed and they were told "no comment."

Whatever the case, let's hope that the good people of Abbeville get clean water restored to them soon.
