Breaux Bridge Man Killed In Motorcycle Crash

A Breaux Bridge man was killed Friday night in a single-vehicle crash while traveling on Atchafalaya River Highway.

Master Trooper Brooks David reported 53-year-old Jeffery Smith was driving south on La. 3177 when he lost control of his motorcycle as he was approaching a curve.

Smith ran off the left side of the road, traveled up an embankment, and was thrown from his motorcycle.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Martin Parish Coroner's Office.

David reported Smith was not wearing a Department of Transportation approved helmet.

Toxicology tests are pending to determine if impairment played a role in the crash.
