It happens all the time. People leave their pooches in the car when they run down to get a couple of things at the store. But when it's hot outside and a passerby sees that dog, of course authorities will be called.

That's exactly what happened recently in Nottinghamshire, England when someone spotted a canine inside a hot car. The police were summoned over and they proceeded to smash in the window of 80-year-old Gordon Williams' car to rescue said dog.

One small problem though -- the dog was really a stuffed animal!

The po-pos did what all good semaritans would do, they wrote a note. They left the following on the car, "Smashed your window re concern for animal on rear seat."

The police do plan to compensate the car owner for their mistake.

"I guess they felt like idiots," Mr. Williams said.
