Cajun Shortstop Blake Trahan Named Finalist For Prestigious Wallace Award

Louisiana Ragin' Cajun shortstop Blake Trahan is one of 3 finalist for the prestigious Brooks Wallace Award (sponsored by Mizuno), which is given to the nation's best shortstop.

Trahan wrapped up his sophomore season with the Cajuns on Monday, finishing the year with a .355 batting average, 4 home runs, 49 RBI, and 45 runs scored.

"Blake has really played above his chronological age at one of the toughest positions to play in baseball in shortstop," UL head coach Tony Robichaux said in a press release. "He really increased his level from his freshman year to this year. Blake has really worked hard to be one of the best at his position. The thing I was most impressed with was his ability to raise his level of play in the postseason and come through with some big hits in key moments."

This postseason, Trahan hit .512 (21-for-41) with 2 doubles, 2 triples, 1 homer and 12 RBI.

Joining Trahan as finalists for the Wallace award are shortstops Vince Conde of Vanderbilt and Trea Turner of NC State.

The award will be presented to one of them on June 28th at the National College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions in Lubbock, Texas.

While his sophomore season is in the books, Trahan will stay busy on the diamond this summer as a member of the USA baseball Collegiate National team. He becomes the first player in school history to play baseball for Team USA.
