Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns used a nine run fourth inning to break open the game and cruised to a 12-3 win over Northwestern State Wednesday night at M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

The Cajuns (4-1) sent thirteen men to the plate in the inning, with the first nine batters reaching safely, much to the delight of the announced crowd of 1,837.

Cord Cockrell (2-0) pitched the first two innings in a predetermined start, and left the game leading 3-2.  Four other pitchers, Matt Plitt, Nick Zaunbreacher, Kendall Mayer and Ben Frith combined to allow one run on six hits, with one walk and seven strikeouts the rest of the way.

Eight different players had at least one hit, and nine different Cajuns scored at least one run.

Sam Carriere led off the fourth inning by reaching on an error.  The next three Cajuns singled with freshman Blake Trahan and Caleb Adams delivering RBI singles off starter Zach Krebs (1-1).  Reliever Cody Butler fared no better, walking Seth Harrison, then allowing three straight hits.  Ryan Leonards plated two with a single, Jace Conrad followed with an RBI double and catcher Michael Strentz tripled into the gap in right center scoring two more.

Northwestern State, under new head coach Lane Burroughs, fell to 3-1 with the loss.

The Cajuns' fourteen game homestand to open the 2013 season resumes Friday night with the first of a three game series against the Roadrunners of UT-San Antonio.  Game time is 6pm.  Junior right hander Chase Traffica will get the start for the Cajuns.
