There have been many great moments in the University of Louisiana's athletic history. Most of us remember the final out when the Cajun Baseball team earned a trip to Omaha in 2000. I can still vividly see in my mind the vision of the Cajun Field goalposts being carried down Congress Street after the Cajuns upset Texas A&M in 1996. While those are great moments I personally believe history will reveal that the greatest moment in Ragin Cajun athletics did not happen on the field or court.

To me the greatest moment in Cajun athletics happened when the RCAF, Ragin Cajun Athletic Foundation was born. This organization brought something to Cajun athletics that the programs never had, money.  Just look at how the Cajun athletic programs have thrived since the RCAF was born.

That growth continued yesterday with a ground breaking ceremony for the Cajuns new athletic performance center. This state of the art facility will provide a lot of great amenities and features to enhance training in all sports and really enhance the "wow factor" of the university to recruits.

There will be a weight room, an auditorium, a training room, offices and more in the 85-thousand square foot facility. Officials with the university and the RCAF believe this kind of physical plant improvement will only enhance the Cajun experience when it comes to athletics. The new facility is part of the University's "Master Plan" to improve facilities in all sports. The completion of the athletics performance center is expected to take about a year.
