Cajuns Clip Wings of ULM Warhawks, 40-24
Make that five in a row.
Louisiana quarterback Terrance Broadway bounced back from a five turnover night in his last start to lead the Cajuns to a convincing 40-24 win over Louisiana-Monroe in front of an announced crowd of 20,203 at Malone Stadium.
It was the fifth straight win for the Cajuns in the series and gives them a 25-23 all-time series lead.
Broadway completed 23 of 32 passes for 373 yards and four touchdowns, plus ran for 83 yards and another score in the win.
Playing against the Sun Belt's best run defense, the Cajuns shredded the Warhawks for 234 yards on the ground and 40:35 possession time to notch their fifth win against three losses, 3-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.
ULM (6-3, 4-1) lost quarterback Kolton Browning to a foot injury early in the second quarter and his absence hurt the Warhawks cause, as ULM was able to convert just two of eleven on third down. Browning's replacement, Cody Wells, completed 18-31 passes for 209 yards but was intercepted twice.
The Cajuns only trailed once in the game 10-7 after the Warhawks capitalized on a Cajuns turnover. But the Cajuns came right back on a five play, 79 yard drive with Broadway hitting Jamal Robinson with a 52 yard pass.
All six Cajuns touchdown drives were at least 77 yards in length, including a 17 play 99 yard drive that consumed 9:33 and gave the Cajuns a 34-17 lead with 5:47 to go.
The Cajuns travel to Gainesville to meet the Florida Gators next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:21am.
