Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball team recorded a postseason win on Wednesday night at the Cajundome, defeating the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders, 96-72, in the first round of the 2016 CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

Trailing, 15-6, at the 12:42 mark of the first half, Louisiana outscored Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 40-22, the rest of the half, to take a 46-37 lead into the locker room at halftime.

After missing their first 6 three-point attempts to begin the half, UL hit their final 6 attempts of the half, including three by Stephen Wronkoski and two by Jay Wright, to finish the half shooting 50% from beyond the arc.

The Cajuns outshot the Islanders from the field in the first half, 48%/40%, while holding down an 18-14 rebounding advantage.

Wright and Wronkoski both had 11 points to lead the way for Louisiana in the first half, while Rayshawn Thomas paced Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with 11 points.

The Cajuns never took their foot off the gas in the second half, pushing their lead to as many as 28 points, before coasting to the 24-point win.

Louisiana ended the game outshooting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi from the field, 52%/40%, including making 11 of their 24 three-point attempts, while also finishing with a 40-31 rebound edge.

Senior Kasey Shepherd, who hit 6 of his 12 three-point attempts, scored a game-high 28 points to lead the way for the Cajuns, while senior Shawn Long added 17 points and 10 rebounds.

In a losing cause for the Islanders, Thomas had 17 points and 6 boards.

With the win, Louisiana improved to 18-14 on the season, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi had their season come to an end with an overall record of 25-8.

The Cajuns will be on the road in the second round, to take on an opponent to be named later on Wednesday night.
