Cajuns Dump UALR 5-2 to Win Series

Louisiana head baseball coach Tony Robichaux has always said the goal on the weekend is to win the series.

Saturday night the Cajuns did just that...for the tenth straight time.

Louisiana (33-4, 13-1 Sun Belt) scored three times in the fifth inning and Cajuns' pitchers didn't give up an earned run for the second straight game as the Cajuns defeated Arkansas-Little Rock 5-2, before a season high 4,439 at M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

Ryan Wilson (5-0) allowed four hits and an unearned run through five innings of work, while Greg Milhorn allowed one hit and an unearned run in the final four innings to get his first save of the season.

The Cajuns got on the board off losing pitcher Sam Theole (0-2) in the second inning when Tyler Girouard walked and went to second on a bunt single by Caleb Adams.  It was the 31st straight game that Adams, the league leader in on-base percentage, had reached base safely.  The runners moved up on a double steal and Girouard scored on Chase Compton's sacrifice fly to give the Cajuns a 1-0 lead.

Louisiana extended its lead in the third when catcher Nick Thurman led off with a triple down the line in right.  He scored on a Jace Conrad single to make the score 2-0.  It was Conrad's 40th RBI of the season, which leads the Sun Belt.

UALR got on the board in the fifth when Bryson Thionnet led off with a double off Wilson.  Joseph Paulino struck out and Sam Vogel flied to center.  But Petr Sila reached on a bunt single and Thionnet scored when Wilson's throw to first hit the runner and rolled away from Compton.

But the Cajuns came right back in their half of the fifth.  Theole hit Blake Trahan with a pitch and Ryan Leonards walked.  Conrad sacrificed the runners to second and third and Girouard followed with a two run single to left to make the score 4-1.  Girouard stole second and scored on Seth Harrison's single for the Cajuns' final run.

UALR got their final run in the seventh when Drew Merten scored on a two out error.

Dylan Butler, who was carted off the field last night after running into the right field box seats brick wall, did not start the game, but came off the bench to get two of the Cajuns' ten hits.  Trahan also had two hits and reached base four times for the Cajuns in the win.

Louisiana will go for the three game sweep tomorrow at 1pm.  Cody Boutte will get the start for the Cajuns.
