The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team was going into the 2nd game against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles looking to avenge their game 1 loss after they had had an 8-3 lead going into the 8th and let it get away. The Cajuns were able to hold onto this one after getting a big lead to defeat Southern Miss 7-4.

The Cajuns would be able to start the 2nd game off with a bang as they would get 3 runs in the first inning. Hayden Cantrelle would be able to give the Cajuns a 1-0 lead when he scored on a fielder's choice. The Cajuns would add 2 more on a 2-out bases loaded double by Zach LaFleur to score Kennon Fontenot and Hunter Kasuls.

Brock Batty who was getting his first career start came into the 2nd inning and allowed a single, a walk, and a hit by pitch to load the bases with no one out. The Cajuns wanted to minimize the damage and they were able to do so as Batty induced a double play and would get the next batter out. The Golden Eagles would get a run on the double play but nothing else in the inning.

The Cajuns would add 3 more runs in the top of the 4th to increase their lead. The Cajuns were able to take advantage of the free bases that Southern Miss was giving them. The first two batters would be walked to begin the inning and then Daniel Lahare would get a bunt single to load the bases. Gavin Bourgeois would be walked to bring in a run and then Lahare and Kole Mckinnon would score on a throwing error to make the lead 6-1.

The Golden Eagles would get a run in the bottom of the 4th to chip into the Cajuns lead on a sacrifice fly to make the Cajuns lead 6-2. The Golden Eagles would have runners at the corners with 2 outs but they didn't cause any more damage. They would add 2 more runs in the bottom of the 7th, one on an RBI single and another on a fielder's choice where the ball was dropped in the outfield to make the Cajuns lead 6-4.

The Cajuns would get a run back in the top of the 8th on an RBI single by Bourgeois and that's all the insurance would need to defeat the Golden Eagles to go 1-1 against them. The Cajuns will come home for a 3 game series this weekend to face off against the league-leading UTA Mavericks. All games can be heard on Kpel 96.5.
