The city fathers of the City of Carencro are cleaning up crime in a whole new way. The town council passed an ordinance that would require property owners to foot the bill for any clean up required if illegal activity occurred on their property.

The Carencro City Council says cleaning up after criminals should not be the burden of the taxpayer or the city.

Among the instances sited at Monday's council meeting was the cost of cleaning up after a suspected meth lab. That cost was about $900. If this new ordinance had been in place the property owner would have had to bear the brunt of the almost $1,000 in clean up charges not the city.

According to media reports, the ordinance was passed by a unanimous vote of the city council.
