As nasty as the United States Senate race in Louisiana has been over the past few months, you aint seen nothing yet. If this campaign follows the history of every campaign I have ever witnessed the commercials are going to get meaner and you're going to hear and see more of them. That fact lends itself to a logical question, "Which candidate has the money to get meaner more often?"

In terms of cash on hand Congressman Bill Cassidy's campaign is well ahead of Mary Landrieu's war chest when it comes to campaign cash.  Cassidy is reportedly sitting on 4.4 million dollars in ready cash while Landrieu has 3.4 million at the ready.

Don't let those figures mislead you though, Mary Landrieu is raising money at a faster rate than Cassidy is. In fact her campaign generated 2.7 million dollars in the last three months.

What does the available cash on hand mean to the election? It all comes down to strategy. Landrieu's people believe her best chance for victory will come with an outright win on November 4th. Most pundits believe she will go all in with advertising and campaigning to get more than 50% of the vote.

Cassidy's camp and those close to it seem to have resigned themselves to a runoff position. They believe that Rob Maness will have enough of influence that no candidate will get more than 50% of the vote November 4th. Cassidy's strategy appears to be save some cash now and save it for the runoff.

Regardless sometime in the next few weeks we the people will make our decision and the mud can be returned to the swamps and bayous where it belongs. I just hope Louisiana can weather the onslaught of evil that is politics along the bayou.
