If it's in your will to be cremated when you die, your ashes (remains) may no longer be spread throughout.

The Catholic Church published new guidelines this week which states that remains cannot be scattered throughout various locations, and that ashes cannot be kept in private homes.

Throughout much of the church's history it has encouraged parishioners to bury their loved ones when they die, but in 1963 allowed for cremation.

Now, the Vatican says that one's remains should not be divided or isolated. By spreading the ashes throughout the church says it gives the appearance of "pantheism, naturalism or nihilism."

Those Catholics who wish to be cremated must have their remains stored in a church approved place.
