Here in Louisiana there is an obsession with chicken chasing. That obsession usually hits a peak around Mardi Gras but that doesn't mean there isn't a need for practice the entire year.

Here is a little cheat you can use the next time you're in charge of catching the chicken for the gumbo pot. Just to be clear you don't want to share this tip with city folks, children, or teenagers. If you did it would deprive them of the fun of running around like total idiots. It would also deprive you of the joy of watching them run around like total idiots.

The trick to this method is creating a chicken catching tool. It's made out of a straightened coat hanger. Leave the hook at the end of the coat hanger as your Shepard's hook. Use that hook to gracefully sneak up on the chickens while they are eating. Snag one of the birds around the neck and then grab their feet. Then it's off to the gumbo pot.
