The holidays are right around the corner, and with them, the wonderful traditions we so love right here in Acadiana. One of my favorites is in Opelousas at the official Christmas lighting at historic Le Vieux Village. This is sponsored by the City of Opelousas, and will take place on Friday, December 4 from 5:00 pm - 8:30 pm at 828 East Landry Street, one mile west of I-49.

Le Vieux Village is a collection of buildings dating from the 1700s to the early 20th century, and includes one of the oldest Creole homes west of the Mississippi River, and also is home to the  historic Louisiana Orphan Train Museum.

Not only will Papa Noel be on hand, but Our Savior’s Youth Choir and Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church will sing traditional Christmas carols, and there will be refreshments, games, arts and crafts vendors with locally made items, a petting zoo, pictures with Santa, an obstacle course, cupcake decorating station, a balloon artist, and so much more. This is a wonderful family event that is free and open to the public, and officially kicks off the Christmas season in Opelousas. Call (337) 948-5227 for more information.
