Church Point Man Dies After Weekend Crash

45-year-old Michael Cunningham of Church Point has passed away after he crashed his truck off US Highway 190 over the weekend.

La. State Police spokesman Trooper Stephen Hammons says Cunningham was driving on the highway just before midnight late Saturday when, for reasons still under investigation, went off the right side of the road, went into a ditch and ran into a culvert. He made it to the hospital, but died shortly after.

Cunningham was not wearing a seatbelt and police suspect alcohol was a factor. Routine toxicology samples were taken and are being submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
