A few weeks ago I was doing a live broadcast in Crowley. I had stopped at the Walmart to purchase a drink and was behind a man who was doing some shopping as well. We struck up a conversation and he informed me that the headlights and wiper blades he was buying were for his company car. When I asked what he did, he told me he was a Crowley Police Officer.

We then got into a discussion about the sad state of the police fleet in Crowley. He told me many of the units were in need of minor repair, some needed major repair, and some were in the shop more than they were on the road.  I took all this as hearsay since I did not get an official confirmation but based on new information released from the Crowley PD it looks as though my new found friend was speaking the truth.

Chief K.P. Gibson of Crowley just announced that his department will be purchasing 18 new police vehicles. This is the largest addition to the motorized police fleet that has ever occurred during Gibson's tenure as Chief. The agreement would allow the department to lease the vehicles for approximately $500,000.00.

This allocation by the mayor and city council should help the department maintain a substantial law enforcement presence in the city. In fact the move could actually save the city  money when you consider the cost of frequent repairs and downtime for vehicles that are not in service. The lease agreement is in effect for a five year period.
