Today is Veterans Day, and throughout Acadiana and the state of Louisiana there are multiple celebrations honoring our veterans. Multiple restaurants are offering free or discounted meals for veterans today as well.

Louisiana’s Third District Congressman Charles Boustany of Lafayette says in just the span of one year much had been done to help veterans.

Boustany says,

“We’ve come a long way since last Veterans Day. Not long ago, the American people were shocked when revelations surfaced of veterans who died waiting on care that never came at the VA facility in Phoenix, Arizona."

Congressman Boustany says it took a good length of time but better care for veterans will be coming to the Acadiana area.

Boustany says,

“This summer, Congress passed bipartisan legislation that reforms the broken VA while finally authorizing long overdue veterans’ clinics in Lafayette and Lake Charles. Today, we stand just months away from groundbreaking on these promised facilities, and I am in regular contact with the VA to ensure they meet this deadline. I’m proud to have led the effort to authorize these clinics, and I won’t give up until they become a reality.”

Boustany says every Amercian should be grateful and give thanks for our veterans.

Boustany says,

“Today, we remember those who gave so much of themselves to ensure the next generation of Americans can live safe and free. We owe the deepest debt of gratitude to our veterans and dedicate this day in honor of their service.”
