A 53-year-old guy from Torrington, Connecticut needed his fix of crack last month but the poor fella didn't have any money.

And doing what drug-addicts will be prone to do, he went searching for some dough.

Leonard Rinaldi's bright idea was to steal his dad's rare coin collection which was worth about $8,000. But instead of trying to sell it to someone who deals coins or perhaps at a pawn shop, he did the next smartest thing -- he visited the nearest CoinStar machine.

Yeah, you know those machines that are set up in stores where you dump your change in and it gives you cash money in return, for a small fee.

Some of the coins got rejected because they were so old. But apparently most of them went through, and he ended up with about 60 bucks, which he used to buy crack.

There is a bit of good news for the dad, authorities went in and recovered the coins that the machine accepted.

Mr. Rinaldi is facing larceny charges, and he's due in court next month.
