With a little over two weeks left to go until election day it is go time for most of the candidates that are seeking your vote. In order to convince you that they are the best choice to earn your vote many candidates will be reaching through your radio and television and dropping a lot cash on political advertisements.

To buy advertising you have to have money and when it comes to fund raising political newcomer Zach Dasher is leading the way.

Through the third quarter of this year Dasher has raised more than half a million dollars to use in his campaign to get your vote. Of course Dasher does have a bit of an edge when it comes to generating interest in his campaign. His uncle is Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame and that celebrity connection appears to be paying dividends on the fund raising trail.

"Undoubtedly, the "Duck Dynasty" family has probably reached out to a lot of their friends, family, and associates and have convinced their associates to also donate."

University of Louisiana at Monroe Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley made those comments to the Louisiana Radio Network.

Stockley went on to say that Dasher certainly has demonstrated a broader based fund raising appeal. Many of the other candidates in the race are self-funding their run for office.

"Vance, Dr. Abraham, Harris Brown, they're relying on self financing, they're giving themselves loans, as well as donors.  So, their financial base is not as widespread as Zach, right now."

While Dasher has the edge in fund raising, according to the latest polls the 5th district race is still very tight. Incumbent Vance McAllister appears to have a slight edge in the latest polls but that edge was within the margin of error so the race is really too close to call.
