My son was asking me just the other day when it would it stop getting dark so early. Well, the answer to that is, in a way, next week when we "spring forward" and Daylight Saving Time begins.

The trade-off is that we give up an hour of sleep in exchange for a few extra months of extra daylight.

On Sunday, March 13th at 2am you will set your clocks one hour forward. Daylight Saving Time will then run through the first Sunday in November.

Daylight Saving Time is also a great time to check items in your home that keep you safe, such as smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, emergency kits and emergency NOAA weather radios.

The Uniform Time Act of 1966 established Daylight Saving Time throughout the U.S. but gave the states the option to exempt themselves. Hawaii and most of Arizona do not follow Daylight Savings Time.
