Did Jerry Lewis Get Fired From The MDA?

Beloved entertainer, comedian, and MDA advocate Jerry Lewis has seen his last day as Chairman of the Board for the Musicular Dystrophy Association. He also will not appear at the 2011 Telethon on Sept 4th. Lewis had already announced his retirement in May, but was planning to sing his signature telethon song "You'll Never Walk Alone" at this years event.  But now that is not going to happen. My question is....how can they have the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon without Jerry Lewis?
