South Louisiana is no stranger to flooding. Even if you have flood insurance, nothing can replace things like family heirlooms, pictures etc. I've been thinking a lot about flood protection the past few days as I'm seeing thousands of homes in Acadiana flooded. It got me thinking, why haven't we figured out some better ways to protect our homes from flooding yet? Sure, we have sandbags, but sometimes that's not enough. I did some searching and found this product called 'DoorDam'. Do you think this would work for us down here?

The idea seems simple enough, and I like the fact that it can be adjusted to fit different door sizes.

Now, I can't find a price for these, but I'm sure it's not cheap. I'm also not certain they're still in business, but I did find a site where you can possibly get a quote called stormgaurdprotection.com.

It seems with a little Cajun ingenuity, we could come up with something like this that most anyone could afford and use to prepare for a flood.

What if we could come up with something so effective that we could get discounts on our flood insurance if we had them?

I know when New Jersey experienced floods a few years ago, I saw a video of a business who sealed their doors with Flex-Seal, and it seemed to work really well.

What are your ideas on this?
