Durel Announces Agreement Linking Lafayette To City In Mexican State Of Tabasco

On “Your Afternoon Drive Home,” Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel announced a partnership between Lafayette and Centla, a Mexican city in the state of Tabasco, something that will benefit our local oil and gas industry.

“We agreed to sign an accord…in principle, that we would try to get some business development between our communities, and in particular the oil and gas industry,” says Durel. “I believe they have 300 oil and gas companies down there but they would desperately like to get some of our oil and gas companies to do some business down there.”

Durel says this meeting with the mayor of Centla means more direct business between the Hub City and Centla, especially dealing with the equipment made here. Durel says he will do the welcome Tuesday night at LAGCOE’s International Reception at the UL Alumni Center, which attracts international visitors from across the globe. “Hopefully, we’ll get some connections made where some of the businesses here in the Acadiana area can find a whole new place to do business.”

Durel says the city of Centla and its population are very similar to Lafayette. And for the record, Durel says Tabasco is where the McIlhenny’s did discover the Tabasco pepper.

On the show, Durel also talked about the Horse Farm planning meetings that are beginning this week, which are listed below and can be checked out at lafayettecentralpark.org:
