29-year-old Stephen Young of Youngsville is behind bars today after police say he manufactured counterfeit money and passed three of these counterfeit bills in Duson.

Duson Police were alerted to the fake money on Monday by two local convenience store/Casinos.

Officers were able to quickly identify a suspect in the case and on Tuesday after officers were alerted to Young’s presence in Duson and a traffic stop lead to the discovery of another counterfeit $100 bill with serial numbers matching the initial case.

Also found in the car Young was traveling in was a printer, cleaning solvents, printer cartridges and other tools commonly used by persons who are reproducing counterfeit notes.

Young was arrested and booked into the Acadia Parish Jail for monetary instrument abuse which is a crime punishable by a fine of not more the $1 Million Dollars or Less than $5,000 or imprisonment from 6 months to 10 years with or without hard labor or both.

The offender may also be ordered to pay restitution.
