Legendary WWE superstar Dusty Rhodes has died at age 69.

WWE has confirmed that Rhodes, real name Virgil Runnels, passed away this morning. The cause of death is unclear at the time of this post, but the WWE did release a statement on the passing of Rhodes.

Runnels became a hero to fans around the world thanks to his work ethic, his impassioned interviews and his indomitable spirit. Moreover, Runnels was a dedicated father to WWE Superstars Goldust (Dustin Runnels) and Stardust (Cody Runnels), a caring husband and a creative visionary who helped shape the landscape of WWE long after his in-ring career had ended.

WWE extends its sincerest condolences to Runnels’ family, friends and colleagues.

Known as "The American Dream," Rhodes was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007. He had four children—two of which who have become WWE superstars themselves.

Rhodes sons, Cody (Stardust) and Dustin (Goldust) both became superstars in the WWE, just like their father.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of this WWE legend.
