Early Morning Explosion Rocks Louisiana Military Camp [Video]

There are no reported injuries after an explosion at the incinerator installed to destroy old jet fuel that is stored at Camp Minden near Shreveport. Shreveport TV station, KSLA has been covering the story this morning.

The Louisiana National Guard published the following release:

PINEVILLE – An explosive incident occurred at Louisiana National Guard’s Camp Minden in Minden, this morning at approximately 5 a.m., Sept. 29.

Explosive Service International, who is responsible for the destruction of all 15 million pounds of M6 and was running 24-hour operations, has confirmed they have no reported injuries.

The explosion occurred on the east side of Camp Minden in the storage area where no one was working. The area has been secured. The contained burn chamber was not damaged.

Louisiana State Police is the lead agency conducting the investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

There are reports of another explosion at Camp Minden in Webster Parish.
State Police have dispatched a hazardous materials team to the area. The National Weather Service tells KEEL News they have seen a debris cloud on radar but can not confirm what it was yet. One trucker tells KSLA TV he saw a fireball over the tree line, and the whole sky lit up. State Police tell us state police troopers saw some sort of explosion and motorists saw the sky. KEEL News asked State Police if any evacuations have been ordered and they had no word on that just yet.
