The early voting period for the December 6th runoff elections will begin Saturday November 22 and run through November 29th. There will be no voting on Sunday November 23, Thursday November 27 and Friday November 28. The Thursday and Friday breaks are because of Thanksgiving.

Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler thinks that voting will be heaviest in the 5th and 6th congressional districts. He told the Louisiana Radio Network,

"Those two Congressional Districts will probably be the heaviest because you'll be drawing in the Senate race and the Congressional races."

In most other parts of the state only the Senate runoff between incumbent Mary Landrieu and Congressman Bill Cassidy will be the only item on the ballot. Because of the lack of local items and the fact that political control of the United States Senate has already been determined, Shedler believes that voter turnout will be rather low.

He speculated that turnout across the state will be 30 to 35 percent. However, the Secretary of State is urging voters to let their voice be heard. Even if the Senate election is the only item being contested in your area it's still your civic duty to get out and cast your vote.
