He is on a special assignment from Santa himself. He might be sitting in your house right now carefully observing who is naughty and who is nice. He is the Elf on the Shelf and he has become a meaningful part of so many Christmas celebrations in South Louisiana. Our friends Tracy Wirtz and Dave Baker on KATC's Good Morning Acadiana were discussing the Elf on the Shelf and they found out that there are a lot of elves on a lot of shelves in our part of the world.

Their names range from Buddy to Bubba to Five, Toolkit, Suzie, Fluffy, Ralph,Elfis, Elvis, Jingles, and on and on and on.

The Elf's job is to report daily to Santa at the north pole regarding the naughtiness or niceness of the people in the home he is sent to observe. An elf who gives Santa a good report insures that all who live within the walls of that home will have a wonderful Christmas.

That is why it is so very important for children and grownups to behave especially good, even when the elf isn't watching. We borrowed some of the photos from our friends at KATC.com you can see many other photos there. If you'd like to learn how the Elf on the Shelf came to be, simply watch the video below.
